Effective September 15, 2017, faster processing of Automated Clearing House (ACH) debits and credits goes into effect. The new rules do not affect the existing procedures for debit card transactions but, virtually ALL other electronic payments are eligible to be processed on the same day as they are originated if they meet certain conditions. This will speed up the payment system, which will benefit you when receiving a payment but also means when you are making a payment, it could clear your account the same day you authorize the payment. Make sure funds are available in your account to cover payments you make whether by check, online, through bill pay or by telephone to avoid incurring NSF fees.
